Apple Podcasts App Crashes in iOS 9
This problem appears on devices running iOS 9 firmware.
If you have noticed, this native Podcasts app was last updated on September 14th, 2014 – that’s almost a year ago.
And after upgrading to iOS 9, the app gets stuck at “updating library…” and shows you a black screen, then returns to the main screen.
This type of crashing has left many users frustrated:
After confirmation, we have noticed the Podcasts app crashes on certain devices only. Not sure why though.
But anyway, as we are in the year 2015, you can expect a new Podcasts app optimized for iOS 9.

Right now, the only fix is to permanently close the Podcasts app from the background and relaunch it. You can also reboot your iPhone / iPad to see if that helps.
Until Apple releases a new Podcasts update, you can listen to your favorite podcasts using third-party iOS apps like Overcast, Downcast, Pocket Casts.
Update October 1st, 12:50 AM: We now confirm that Podcasts app doesn’t crash anymore when you update your devices to the new iOS 9.0.2 update.
