How to Change the Image Format

Being able to switch between different image formats is helpful because there are so many of them available, such as JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, and BMP.

Using an Online Converter

Using an online converter is one of the easiest and fastest ways to change the file format of an image. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Find your preferred website for image conversion. Online-Convert is a fave.

  2. Choose the file format to which you wish to convert the image from the menu on the left.

  3. Either click the Choose from Dropbox button OR click the CHOOSE FILES button and enter the URL of an image.

  4. Click CONVERT FILE after making your choice from among the OPTIONAL SETTINGS.

  5. Go over the section labeled YOU NOW HAVE THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS.

Using a Free Photo Editor

Converting Multiple Images at Once

Many images can be converted at once from one file format to another. If you need to convert a large number of pictures, this is helpful. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Holding down the Ctrl key while selecting each picture in the image gallery will allow you to convert them one at a time. Alternatively, to select every image, hit Ctrl+A.

  2. Select SAVE AS. You’ll see a window pop up.

  3. By default, the converted images will be stored in the current folder. Modify the Destination folder if you would like to save them somewhere else.

  4. From the drop-down list located to the right of the Filename format box, choose the file format to which you wish to convert the pictures.

  5. Press Save.

A Portable Network Graphic (PNG) with extremely high resolution is contained in the PNG image file. PNG employs lossless compression, which means that even when it gets smaller, the original graphic’s quality is preserved. Usually, websites use it to store their graphics. For storing graphics on webpages, PNG is ideal. The PNG is a fairly common file type since it is simple to open on both Mac and Windows. It also does well with tasks like developing websites and taking pictures. The aforementioned procedures apply to both Windows and Mac when the two image file types are changed.

Modifying a PNG Image

Here are the steps to modify a PNG image using Microsoft Paint and Preview:

Microsoft Paint (Windows)

  1. Launch Microsoft Paint and select the chosen PNG file.

  2. Choose File and then Save as.

  3. In the File name field, type the desired file name.

  4. Choose JPEG from the drop-down menu under Save as type.

  5. The file will be saved to the chosen location when you click Save.

Preview (Mac)

  1. Locate the PNG file you want to change.

  2. Click File in Preview and select Export.

  3. Select JPG from the menu.

  4. Select Save.

If you require a smaller file size, think about converting your PNG image file to a JPG. When a business creates a webpage, it understands how important it is to retain visitors. It is important to remember that the opposite conversion (from JPG to PNG) is possible if needed. One more thing to note is that if image quality is critical to your business, proceed with caution when converting. PNG may cause problems if you’re building a website or uploading numerous individual files.
