To get started, follow these steps:
- Select ALL PROGRAMS from the taskbar
- Click the START button
- Select Microsoft Office
- Finally, select Microsoft Office Powerpoint 2007
When the PowerPoint application window opens, a blank presentation is shown. Make sure to maximize your program window if it isn’t already.
- Click the Office button for Microsoft
- The menu that appears contains commands for managing presentations, including creating, saving, and printing. The File menu from earlier iterations of PowerPoint has been replaced by this menu, which we will refer to as the OFFICE MENU throughout this book.
- To exit the menu, press the ESC key.
The Home tab is open on the Ribbon. The six groups of buttons on this tab—Clipboard, Slides, Font, Paragraph, Drawing, and Editing—are related to creating slide content.

- This tab’s buttons are grouped into three categories based on how your presentation will look: Page Setup, Themes, and Background.
To modify the background of your presentation:
- Show the ScreenTip for the Hide Background Graphics button in the BACKGROUND group.
- Click the BACKGROUND dialog box launcher, located at the right end of the BACKGROUND group’s title bar.
- Click CLOSE in the FORMAT BACKGROUND dialog box.
Now, let’s explore different themes for your presentation:
- Point at the third theme thumbnail from the left in the THEMES group; do not click on it.
- Click the scroll DOWN arrow located in the scroll bar to the right of the THEMES group thumbnails.
- Click the MORE button in the THEMES group.
- Point to different gallery themes and watch how it affects the slide.
- To exit the gallery without using a theme, press the ESC key.

Opening a PowerPoint 2007 Presentation

Adding a Slide in PowerPoint 2007
Now let’s explore how to add a slide in PowerPoint 2007.
- Select the slide you want your new slide to follow in Normal view by clicking on it in the left slide thumbnail pane.
- Click the arrow next to NEW SLIDE on the HOME tab.
- Select the layout you like for your new slide by clicking on it in the layout gallery.
- After inserting your new slide, you can start adding content by clicking inside a placeholder.
- Click the thumbnail of the slide you wish to move in the pane on the left, and then drag it to the new position.
- Holding down the Ctrl key while you click each slide you wish to move will select multiple slides. Drag them all to the new location at once.
- To delete a slide, select its thumbnail with a right-click in the pane on the left (you can also press and hold Shift to select multiple slides in succession or Ctrl to select multiple slides at once). Then, click DELETE SLIDE.
