How to use Alexa without being connected

To use Alexa, you do not require an Amazon Echo.

With your iPhone, iPad, or Android phone, you can use Alexa for voice shopping, play Skyrim and Westworld, and use Alexa as usual.

Amazon offers two distinct apps that come pre-installed with Alexa.

Upon installing any app, you will need to log in with your Amazon account in order to proceed.

Select the Alexa icon located beneath the shopping cart in the upper right corner of the screen within the Amazon Shopping app.

Tap the blue Alexa icon located in the bottom bar of the Alexa app.

When you initially use either app to activate Alexa, you will be asked to grant permission for Alexa to access your location and listen to your microphone.

Ask or give your command verbally.

The Alexa part doesn’t even need to be said. Alexa will start listening as soon as you tap the icon.

Saying "Open Skyrim" or "Order batteries" is sufficient.

The next lesson will cover using Alexa without the Alexa app.

For optimal operation, WiFi connectivity is required for Alexa devices.

Open the Alexa app, select Devices, and use the app to connect Alexa to a new WiFi network. Next, choose the Alexa device you wish to connect to a new WiFi network by selecting Echo & Alexa.

Next, enter the WiFi network password by tapping Change next to WiFi Network.

Your best bet is to use a browser to connect Alexa to WiFi if you are unable to do so using the mobile app.

Without using the app, go to ALEXA.AMAZON.COM and log in to set up Alexa to connect to a new WiFi network.

Next, choose your device by clicking Settings > Set up a new device.

After that, switch your device to pairing mode and establish a WiFi network connection.

Lastly, select your newly created network and input your password.
