Apple Releases iOS 9: Here’s What You Should Know

And the wait is here. It’s HERE! Apple iOS 9 is here!

Yay!

Apple has finally released this year’s iOS 9 firmware. And if you are as excited as we are, then get ready to install and download this new firmware…

And say goodbye to the old one!

We also wanted to write a detailed post explaining all you need to know about this new firmware.

Release Details

If you check out the release date page, you will know that iOS 9 was released earlier as well – but they were meant for iOS developers.

Today, on September 16th, Apple has released the first public version of iOS 9 – which means it is more stable than those beta updates.

Compatibility

Of course, devices released 5 years ago are never going to enjoy the new iOS 9 update. Only a certain handset will have iOS 9 as explaining in our compatibility page.

And those Apple smartphones / tablets are in this chart:

We have skipped three more devices: iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and iPad Pro – all of them released this month will also ship with iOS 9 pre-installed.

Backup Before Upgrading

As a tip, we recommend you to backup your iPhone / iPad before upgrading to iOS 9. This is simple and important.

You can backup via iCloud (if you are on your phone and have access to high-speed WiFi connection as downloading iOS 9 via cellular data is prohibited)…

Or you can use iTunes on your computer to manually backup your apps, games, photos, songs… and everything.

Make Free Space

Yes, we need at least 1.5 GB of free space to download and install iOS 9 firmware on our devices.

Fortunately, Apple has this new option called “Allows App Deletion” that creates this space by temporarily deleting your apps and games (ouch) and restoring them after successful installation (yay!).

Of course, you can free up some space by removing useless apps and games that require massive storage space. Even one or two games in GBs when deleted creates enough space for installation.

Once you are done with all this, the next step is to install iOS 9. We are writing a simple guide on our “Installation” page that explains several ways to get iOS 9 on your device.

You have three options here:

  • Get iOS 9 from your iPhone / iPad by going to Settings -> General -> Software Update.
  • Get iOS 9 from your iTunes player by plugging in your iPhone / iPad to your computer via USB cable.
  • Get iOS 9 from your iTunes player by manually installing IPSW file you have downloaded from here.

Conclusion

At iOS 9 News, our aim is to write and share as much as we know. You are going to love the new update – of course, it is going to be buggy, as we have seen in iOS 9 betas, but it will be worth it.

Let us know if you have already downloaded and installed iOS 9 on your device… our review is on its way! 🙂
